Womens Day Badminton in the Western Cape

With the call from Women in Badminton of BSA, in order to celebrate and promote the ladies the Western Cape, and celebrate the International Womens Day, Western Province and Cape Winelands joined forces and organised a Women’s Badminton Tournament at John Tyers Hall, Access Park, in Cape Town on 17 March 2021.

The tournament is also in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, all participating players wear pink heart ribbon as a token of solidarity.

28 Female players and 14 male players took part in the tournament aged from 17 to 74, with different strength of the badminton skills.

There are four awards given to the following players:

  • Ladies double winners – Anri Schoonees and Vanessa Bailey
  • Mixed doubles winners – Anri Schoonees and Zak Singh
  • Special woman player – Denise Sergeant
  • The most friendly women doubles – Michela Ohlson (Ocean View)and and Palesa Pitso (Gugulethu)

A very successful tournament with a lot of fun and enjoyment been had. They are glad badminton is coming back after the almost whole year of lockdown.
