The official Mascot for the All Africa Senior Championships 2023 has been revealed and he is a super-skilled badminton player called Dlovu.
The different Zulu, Tswana, Sotho and Tsonga names for an elephant all mean ‘the forceful one’, or ‘the unstoppable one’. The name of the mascot (Dlovu) derives from the Zulu name indlovu, from the verb dlovu, which means to ‘crash through’.
Dlovu was chosen after calls for a mascot were sent out last year with the winners been the National Institute of the Deaf in Worcester.
